In the record

The United States made 18 treaties and agreements that name Shawnee as a party, from Treaty of Fort Finney (Mouth of the Great Miami) with the Shawnee, 1786 to Seneca; Mixed Seneca and Shawnee; Quapaw; Confederated Peoria, Kaskaskia, Wea, and Piankashaw; Miami; Ottawa; and Wyandot at Washington, DC (1867).

C. C. Royce’s 1899 schedule records 43 cessions of land from Shawnee: about 33 million acres by this atlas’s estimate, counting overlaps once. 22 of them came through treaties made under documented pressure. The largest was Land of the Chippewa, Delaware and others in Indiana and Ohio, ceded 1795 (area 11), about 19 million acres, ceded under Treaty of Greenville, 1795.

The atlas records 1 broken treaty promise involving Shawnee: Greenville 1795 and Fort Wayne 1809: encroachment, then cession under pressure.

Today, Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and Shawnee Tribe carry this history, as their own pages or research records say.
