Donation integrity policy
What this is. Living Law, Living Land is an educational and advocacy project by Benjamin Life (@omniharmonic). It points readers to ways of supporting Land Back: returning land, and authority over land, to Native nations. We do not receive, hold or process donations. We take no payment, commission, affiliate fee or data from any organization we list.
How we choose who to list. Before we list a group we check its legal identity and tax status in public registries, whether it has filed recent financial reports, the payee on its donation page, who leads it and whether they are Native people or a tribal government, and whether the nation whose land is concerned supports being named. If we cannot verify something, we say so, or we do not link to the group.
How we label. Each listing says whether it is a tribal government, a tribal or Native-led nonprofit, a fiscally sponsored project, or an allied organization that is not Native-led, and what we could and could not verify. “Self-described” means the group says it is Native-led and we have not independently confirmed it.
What your money does. Large land returns are usually paid for by public programs, foundations and long negotiation. A gift supports an organization’s work; it does not buy a number of acres.
What we will never do. Use images or stories without consent, sell products or “adopt an acre” schemes, run donor leaderboards, promise outcomes, or send you to a person or group we have not checked.
Corrections and removal. If a listed organization, a tribal government or a community member asks us to change or remove a listing, we do so promptly. Contact us.
Limits. We are not tax or legal advisers. This policy is awaiting review by a lawyer.
