In the record

Set aside for the Shawnee at Hog Creek as 25 square miles in 1817, then ceded in August 1831. The area covers about 23 thousand acres in what is now Ohio.

The 1899 record names Shawnee as the people of this land.

How it was taken: a removal treaty. The OSU treaty text says it implements the 1830 removal act, with Ohio land exchanged for western land and removal.

Today, Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and Shawnee Tribe carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
