Who else your browser talks to
- OpenFreeMap serves the basemap tiles on the map page. Like any web server it sees your IP address when your browser asks for tiles.
- Our Native Land Digital relay (on Vercel), when you look up a place or follow a nation on the map. It receives a point, rounded to about a kilometer, and stores nothing.
- Where you live, only if you look up a place. The address you type goes through our relay to the US Census Bureau’s geocoder (or, if Census finds no match, OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim) and comes back as coordinates rounded to about 100 meters. Nothing is stored. The address stays in the part of the web address after the #, which browsers do not send to servers; after the lookup it is replaced by the rounded coordinates, so a link you share points to a neighborhood, not a house. Everything else about the place is worked out in your browser. “Use my location” asks your browser and sends your location nowhere except the territory lookup below.
- The atlas’s AI server (on Vercel), only if you connect an assistant to it. It receives what the assistant asks (such as an address) and stores nothing; your assistant’s own provider has its own privacy terms.
- Our private intake (on Vercel), only if you send the claim or correction form. What you write goes to a private inbox and is never published.
Fonts and everything else are served from this site. The search runs entirely in your browser.
