- 1888
Set aside as a reservation
The 1899 record: “For these Indians the following lands: Beginning at a point in the middle of the main channel of the Missouri river opposite the mouth of Big Muddy creek”
In the record
Kept for the Indians of the Fort Peck agency as their reservation under an 1888 act, carved from the former large Montana reserve; not a cession. The area covers about 2.3 million acres in what is now Montana.
This area was not ceded. The 1899 record shows it as a reservation the nation kept, at least until the record ends in 1894.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
