In the record

Land outside the Klamath River reserve that the Hoo-pah, Peh-tuck and Poh-lik were to give up under an October 1851 treaty that was never ratified. The area covers about 4.8 million acres in what is now California.

The 1899 record names Klamath as the people of this land.

How it was taken: a treaty the Senate never ratified. The OSU treaty page marks it Unratified, and Prologue says the Senate rejected all 18 California treaties.

Today, Klamath Tribes carries the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
