In the record

Ceded by the Potawatomi, Chippewa and Ottawa in 1846, the Osage River tract in Kansas. The area covers about 986 thousand acres in what is now Kansas.

The 1899 record names Chippewa (Ojibwe), Ottawa and Potawatomi as the people of this land.

How it was taken: a removal treaty. Article 6 of the treaty text requires removal to the Kansas River within two years.

Today, Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians of the Bad River Reservation, Wisconsin, Bay Mills Indian Community, Chippewa Cree Indians of the Rocky Boy's Reservation, Montana, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Michigan, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin, Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and 23 more carry the history of the people named here.
