In the record

Set aside as a 3-square-mile tract opposite the mouth of the Hiwassee in the October 1805 Tellico treaty with the Cherokee, then ceded to the United States in February 1819. The area covers about 0 thousand acres in what is now Tennessee.

The 1899 record names Cherokee as the people of this land.

How it was taken: a treaty or agreement. The Oklahoma State treaty text records a convention negotiated in Washington with Cherokee chiefs to settle the 1817 treaty, with no description of duress.

Today, Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians carry the history of the people named here.
