In the record

Land the eastern Apache bands claimed when their dealings with the United States began, east of the Rio Grande into Colorado and Texas; no purchase treaty is recorded for most of them, so not a cession. The area covers about 86 million acres in what is now New Mexico and Texas.

The 1899 record names Apache as the people of this land.

Today, Apache Tribe of Oklahoma, Fort Sill Apache Tribe, Jicarilla Apache Nation, New Mexico, Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas, Mescalero Apache Tribe, San Carlos Apache Tribe and 3 more carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
