Land area
Land of the Snake Indians, Woll-pah-pe tribe in Oregon, ceded 1865 (area 474)
- 1865
Ceded to the United States
By Snake (Woll-pah-pe) at Sprague River Valley, Oregon (1865)
In the record
Ceded by the Woll-pah-pe tribe of Snake Indians in August 1865 at Sprague River Valley, Oregon; this area is the part of that cession that does not overlap others. The area covers about 421 thousand acres in what is now Oregon.
The 1899 record names Walpapi (Woll-pah-pe) band of Snake as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a removal treaty. Article 3 of the treaty text requires the tribe to "remove forthwith" to the reservation designated by the 1864 treaty and bars members leaving without written consent.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
