Land area
Land of the Calapooia and Umpqua in Oregon, ceded 1854 (area 344)
- 1854
Ceded to the United States
By Umpqua and Kalapuya at Calapooia Creek, Douglas County, Oregon Territory (1854)
In the record
Ceded by the Umpqua and Calapooia in 1854, land in Oregon; a reserve inside it was later treated as ceded too. The area covers about 1.5 million acres in what is now Oregon.
The 1899 record names Umpqua as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a treaty made under documented pressure. The Siletz history says its ancestors were 'forced to sign' seven treaties, and describes the 1856 removal of the Umpqua and Kalapuya from the Umpqua Valley.
Today, Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
