In the record
Part of the Miami's 1818 Big Reserve, kept in 1838 for Me-to-sin-ia's band, deeded in 1840 to his son Me-shing-go-me-sia, and divided among band members by an act of Congress in June 1872. The area covers about 23 thousand acres in what is now Indiana.
The 1899 record names Miami as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a treaty made under documented pressure. The Myaamia Center blog quotes agents proposing to bribe chief Richardville and describes pressure on the Miami to sell before losing the land by other means.
Today, Miami Nation of Indians of the State of Indiana, Inc. and Miami Tribe of Oklahoma carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
