The 1899 record: “further cede the reservation of 99 sections of laud described in the treatv made at St Josejih on Sept. 19, 1827. The”
In the record
Set aside for the Potawatomi as 99 sections by the September 1827 St. Joseph treaty, then ceded at Chicago in September 1833. The area covers about 68 thousand acres in what is now Michigan.
The 1899 record names Chippewa (Ojibwe), Ottawa and Potawatomi as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a treaty or agreement. The Oklahoma State treaty text records a negotiated exchange of reserved tracts, though its stated aim is to distance the bands from white settlements.
Today, Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians of the Bad River Reservation, Wisconsin, Bay Mills Indian Community, Chippewa Cree Indians of the Rocky Boy's Reservation, Montana, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Michigan, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin, Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and 23 more carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
