Land area
Land of the Quapaw in Arkansas, ceded 1824 (area 121)
- 1818
Set aside as a reservation
- 1824
Ceded to the United States
In the record
Set aside as the Quapaw's future home in Arkansas by the August 1818 treaty, then ceded by the Quapaw to the United States in November 1824. The area covers about 1.2 million acres in what is now Arkansas.
The 1899 record names Quapaw as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a removal treaty. The treaty text requires the Quapaw to move to the Caddo district, and the Encyclopedia of Arkansas describes settler and official pressure and a disastrous move.
Today, Quapaw Nation carries the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
