Land of the Kickapoo (of the Vermillion) in Illinois and Indiana, ceded 1819 (area 110)
- 1819
Ceded to the United States
- 1819
Partly ceded to the United States
By Kickapoo of the Vermilion at Fort Harrison, Indiana (1819)
In the record
Ceded by the Kickapoo at Edwardsville in July 1819; a month later the Kickapoo of the Vermilion ceded overlapping land, and the 1899 federal record maps the two as one cession. The area covers about 14 million acres in what is now Illinois and Indiana.
The 1899 record names Kickapoo as the people of this land.
How it was taken: a treaty or agreement. The Oklahoma State treaty text records a signed exchange of land with removal assistance; it does not describe coercion, but the removal element is noted in cautions.
Today, Kickapoo Tribe of Indians of the Kickapoo Reservation in Kansas, Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma and Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas carry the history of the people named here.

Shapes come from C. C. Royce’s 1899 maps as georeferenced by the US Forest Service. They are approximate and are not legal descriptions of land. Royce recorded land the United States treated as ceded; the shape does not show a nation’s territory.
